Information on Website
The Schedule is updated weekly with all the rumored fights.
I base the rankings on accomplishments and performance.
The rankings are updated after every major event.
A fighter can rise in the rankings despite losing if he turns in a high-level performance.
Generally for a fighter to debut in the rankings, he must beat an established opponent or win several fights in a row impressively.
A fighter will be removed from the rankings after 2 years of inactivity or after poor performance.
(NR) means the fighter has yet to establish himself in their new weight class or is fighting outside his regular weight class or is coming off a 2-year layoff.
If a fight is at a catchweight, I will consider it at whatever division it is closest to. Example: A fight at 160 lbs. will be considered a lightweight fight (155 lbs.) rather than a welterweight fight (170 lbs.) because it’s only 5 lbs. away from lightweight rather than 10 lbs. for welterweight. If the weight difference is even, I will consider it a fight in the higher weight class.

Looking at your rankings and I don’t see Thomas Schulte . He is the current HCF Lightweight Champion and deserves to be above a number of the lightweights you have listed . Perhaps its an oversight ?
He lost to Jason Maxwell and hasn’t beaten a name fighter yet to put him on the map. While HCF is definately an up and coming Organization, they need to bring in name fighters to prove their own fighter’s worth in the public eye.
Where is Melvin Manhoef??
I was thinking about Melvin and i’ve decided to add him and Dong Sik Yoon to the rankings. Thanks for the feedback.
I’m wondering when do u remove guys from the rankings because of inactivity? I see Mark Hunt is still ranked 15th, yet he hasn’t fought in a mma fight in over 2 years.
Mark Hunt last fought on 12/31/06. That was less than 2 years ago. I usually wait until 2 years of inactivity to remove a fighter from the rankings. If Hunt doesn’t schedule a fight quickly, I will remove him.
How in the world do you rate these rankings???? How the hell is someone like Matt Hamil with 4 pro fights ranked higher that Vladimir Matyushenko? Are you guys on crack? What about Some of the others who also have slighty better records than Matts are still ranked higher than the Janitor.
I have nothing against some of these new guys that are great fighters but get your rankings fixed!
Dear Vanessa,
Take a deep breath, relax. You don’t have to get so dramatic. Instead of bashing me with angry rhetoric, why don’t you tell me what you think needs to be fixed?
Matt Hammil and Vladdy have a common opponent in Tim Boetsch. Hammil finished him while Vladdy had to work hard to get a three round decision. The Janitor has world class wrestling but his standup is very poor. Hammil has just as good MMA wrestling (Vladdy got taken down by Tito after all) and better standup. He’s the better fighter right now.
Hello, this is just the site I was looking for. It has a schedule of all the upcoming fights.
My 3 favorite fighters are Cung Le, Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva. I am starting to pay attention to Fedor now that I have heard and read about him.
I like trained martial artists over brawlers (like tito ortiz, even though he has a wrestling background).
Are there any other names I should be aware of? I will be checking out GSP in his upcoming fight.
And how do I get an email or RSS feed of this great website?
Terrence,
I’m not sure I know what a RSS feed is. Could you clarify?
Fighters you should check out are: Rodrigo Nogueira, Wanderlei Silva, BJ Penn, Urijah Faber, Miguel Torres are must-see fighters.
I would also suggest: Eddie Alvarez, Ronaldo Souza, Demian Maia, Roger Huerta, Wagnney Fabiano, Carlos Condit, Jason Miler, Robbie Lawler and Mauricio Rua.
there are 145lbs in the Maximum Fighting Championship as well as Pat Healy is there 170 lb Champ and thats not listed. The Maximum Fighting Championship is the biggest and only Live Show in Canada and will know be coming to the U.S IN 2009.
Hey Kevin – I would like to chat with you for an article I am writing about MMA. Please get in touch with me if you are interested.

Just wondering if it would be okay to post your December schedule on myspace blog?? The myspace page doesn’t sale anything or even have sponors….just informational…Thanks
MMA_Fighters,
I have no problem with that as long as you put a link to my website along with it
Thanks.
I was glad to see you put Lesnar at number 3. After beating your former number three ranked fighter in Couture he deserves to be up there. I can not wait to see him fight Nog or a rematch with Mir. Also how do you think GSP would do against Anderson Silva. I heard that could be a possible match and would be fun to see.
Thank you for the website. I think you do a great job and your not bisect with country’s or states. You go on performents and that is why I come here from now on to see ranking. Thanks
Nick,
Anyone who beats Couture is automatically in the top 5. Lesnar is a beast.
GSP vs. Silva would be very interesting. I also hear it may happen later in 2009. I would put my money on Silva to win. I think his reach advantage would be the difference.
Alex,
I appreciate it, thanks. I believe a good permormance should be rewarded.
Ranking fighters is incredibly difficult and subjective…especially once you get outside the top 5 or 10. I think you’ve done a pretty solid job. Obviously, I don’t agree with all of your rankings, but I respect the attempt.
Thanks Derek. It is indeed impossible to please everyone.
